Many of us had seen various SWAT movies when the tactical gear was in use. Although many of these are not such accurate adaptations of the real-life tactical gears, it is still clear that SWAT must have a wide range of gear to complete its different missions successfully. Guns are an essential feature in a SWAT arsenal.
SWAT officers cannot be separated from their firearms. The SWAT teams utilize many different weapons, but the most common weapons are submachine guns, carbines, assault rifles, shotguns, and sniper rifles. Furthermore, sidearms can be lifesavers in a variety of situations. Many SWAT officers carry various guns, such as the M1911 pistol series, SIG Sauer pistols, especially the P226 and P229, Beretta 92 guns, Glock pistols, H&K USP guns, and FN Five-Sevens. The most common sidearm is a semi-automatic pistol.
The use of rifles and big guns is also becoming more widespread. At one point in time, most SWAT teams used the Heckler & Koch MP 5 submachine gun in 9 mm.
Essentially, SWAT departments have phased it out in favor of the 5.56 carbines from Colt and M4 as well as more modern options, such as the 408. SWAT teams also use semi-automatic shotguns as well as pump-action shotguns like the Remington 870 and Benelli M1. One of the world’s best-equipped teams regarding rifles and long-range tactical gear is the SWAT team. When using a longer-ranged weapon, SWAT marksmen prefer the M16A2, a Colt rifle. However, M14 rifles and Remington 700P rifles are also commonly used as sniper rifles.
Officers who work in the SWAT unit face various kinds of threats daily and in varying situations. It is because of these situations that SWAT officers need to have state-of-the-art tactical gear in their arsenal.
